FM1603 - Health and Safety Manager - £38 to £45,000 – Slough Focus - National Remit

Our client is a national managed services company operating contracts for a number of blue chip clients.
They are currently seeking a Health and Safety Manager to assume full responsibility for health and safety across the clients portfolio. The primary focus will be to ensure the adherence to all aspects of health and safety policy and to develop a strong culture.
The person must have experience of implementing and operation H&S management systems.
The post holder will have a relevant qualification in occupational health and safety together with at least two years experience working as a health and safety professional within the facilities management or a related sector. In addition the post holder will have a persuasive manner and a businesslike style in presenting reports to the client’s senior management.
The post is UK wide and reports to the Account Director.

Key functions of the post will be:
• Hazard identification through a comprehensive risk assessment programme
• Training and assessing competence
• Accident investigation and reporting
• Auditing and presenting management reports
• Introducing accident and risk reduction initiatives
The structure will be based on the clients safety management system augmented where appropriate by the
service providers system. The post holder will be expected to further develop the system to enhance health and safety performance.

The post holder will be the owner of the Business Continuity Plan (BPC):
• Ensuring all staff are fully conversant with the plan
• Test the plan at suitable intervals where appropriate
• In the event of an emergency, directing all existing resource toward the recovery of the situation
• Be the person providing the immediate focus and reaction to a disaster situation.
• Maintain, review and develop the plan
FM1458 - Construction Health and Safety Assistant - £25 to £35,000 – London

Our client is a major UK and International Engineering and Construction Consultancy who are currently seeking a
Construction Health and Safety Assistant to assist the CDM Co-ordinator in his work. This includes:
- Monitoring designers hazard management
- Attending H&S meetings
- Compiling and checking Health and Safety documents
- Managing Health and Safety document issue and distribution
Assisting with other Health and Safety tasks. This might include:
- Maintaining training and other records
- Organising training
- Assisting with and writing risk assessments and method statements

While this post is about Construction Health and Safety, it is regarded that appropriate engineering experience is essential, the detailed h&s knowledge can be taught.
Essential Qualifications Engineering Degree
Applicants will be expected to be able to demonstrate the following:
- A general understanding of the construction procurement process
- A general understanding of the relationships between contractors and others on site
- An understanding of construction processes and activities including the associated hazards
- Familiarity with the CDM Regulations and the basic principles of Health and Safety
- An interest in and ability to learn about Health and Safety in Construction
- Membership at some level of a professional Engineering body and the intention to go forward to full membership if not already a member

The candidate should be able to show practical experience on a construction site and experience carrying out permanent works design. The site experience should ideally be on a significant civil or structural engineering project. As a designer, the candidate should have had a role in setting design concepts rather than production design. However,
the candidate’s ability to learn lessons from this experience and apply them elsewhere is the most important factor.
