Our client is a specialist engineering company providing a full range of services to the property and construction industry. As part of the Group they are aligned to their Civils, Environmental, Energy and Development and Transportation Businesses to provide a multidisciplinary management and consultancy service that meets the developing demands of out clients.

The London M&E team is divided into several operating teams each lead by a Technical Director. The aim is to add a Mechanical Associate engineer to an existing team to strengthen the structure and be part of growth and development.
Current projects consist of retail, commercial and residential projects including “renewable technologies” and “low energy” designs required to satisfy local authority planning requirements and Building Regulations, Part L.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a dynamic self motivated individual who will take on a Leadership role in project work, focused on delivery to the client and technical excellence. The role requires management of a number of projects and becoming involved in design at an early stage. It includes management of fees and invoicing, project resource management and mentoring and coaching junior members of the team. The ability to plan design deliverables for each stage of a project is a pre-requisite.
A key element of the role is to liaise with clients and design teams to confirm the brief and be responsible for providing highly innovative design and delivery of sustainable solutions. This includes undertaking feasibility studies and developing concepts through to detailed design, specification and tender to the required standards. Development of energy strategies incorporating renewable technologies and low energy designs to satisfy local authority planning requirements and compliance with Building Regulations Part L, co-ordinated design delivery taking into full consideration CDM standards QA standards and programme deadlines.

The role includes attendance at site meetings, liaison with Construction Managers and Trade Contractors, site visits to monitor progress and quality of installations, witnessing of commissioning results and acceptance for handover to clients.

Requirements
The applicant should have obtained Chartered Engineer status, possess CIBSE membership and a degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably Building services.
The applicant will have proven experience in the design of Engineering Building Services. The ability to work closely with clients and take instructions is essential.
Must be fully conversant with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project and technical software, such as IES and Hevacomp.
Applicants need to be able to demonstrate good management, communication and technical skills and be capable of working both within the team and independently, as dictated by work load.
Good presentation skills are also required.

The Building Services team is looking towards controlled growth to manage its current and future projects and clients.

As a result of growth during the last three years the Building Services team is looking to appoint a Mechanical Associate Director.
Responsibilities
Core Functions
• Agree feasibility study briefs with clients to anticipate and identify needs and expectations, and develop the project brief in conjunction with others.
• Review and approve feasibility study reports before issue to client, and follow up the report with the client.
• Work with client & design team to assemble a design specification compliant with the Employer’s requirements, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring delivery by the due date.
• Agree and monitor scope of works.
• Carry out detailed design to Building Regulations standard ensuring CDM, QA and technical review and sign off by Project Leader, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues.
• Establish the design concept with the team and determine the programme for the design process, carry out high level review.
• Co-ordinate and attend pre-qualification interviews.
• Review tender documentation and authorise tender issues, review tenders received and advise client on appointment of contractor, and liaise between disciplines on multi-functional tenders.
• Report to the client any variance between the works constructed and the design intent.
• Ensure relevant schedules of testing/commissioning and snagging are prepared and carried out by suitably qualified personnel.
• Identify the need for building and site surveys and their relevance to the project, and ensure that they are implemented in time to meet the requirements of the project.
• Agree fees and extras and maintain client comfort.
• Carry out due diligence surveys where required.
• Review outputs of Computer Aided Design analysis, and determine additional levels of checking needed.
• Lead the design process and encourage the rest of the team to deliver appropriate and cost effective solutions to the agreed programme; support those more inexperienced by technical review, mentoring and advice.
• Lead from the front accepting design challenges and giving them due consideration with the support of others to achieve resolution.
• Act as project director, working with project team at a senior level.
• Undertake regular reviews with project managers to ensure that QA, CDM & risk management processes are followed.
• Manage client relationship, ensuring the client is well informed about project progress and solicit and act on feedback from the client to enhance the service they receive.
Business and Team Functions
• Implement business development strategy as part of leadership team, coach and develop team in developing business, and network and develop contacts locally to develop business
• Encourage staff feedback & contribution to knowledge sharing tools.
• Ensure contracts / letter of intent are in place for all projects before work begins.
• Flag PI issues to the Commercial Director in line with company policy.
• Ensure all company standards & efficient working practices are adopted.
• Maintain an overview & understanding of the team workload & associated resource requirements, and work with other team leaders to ensure resources are fully utilised, identify & address effectively any surplus or shortfall in available staff.
• Provide consistent & meaningful management reports on a monthly basis in line with the current commercial framework of the company.
• Ensure that accurate fees & progress data related to all projects is prepared and entered into the company commercial management system in a timely manner.
• Manage working capital on a monthly basis to achieve agreed KPI’s
• Negotiate additional fees with clients where appropriate.
• Ensure contracts are in place for supplier relationships.
Requirements
Qualifications BEng or MEng degree in relevant engineering discipline as a minimum standard.
Achieved incorporated or chartered status.
Technical Skills Demonstrated ability to lead completion of conceptual design, feasibility studies, design specifications, detailed engineering design, calculations, project budget costing, site supervision and liaison work and job tender for a wide variety of projects.
Experience of managing large projects as the lead engineer is essential.
Experience of winning work, people leadership and commercial management are essential, ideally supplemented by a particular technical specialism or sector focus.
IT Skills Good knowledge and ability to use desktop IT packages.
Local Knowledge Good reputation in the local market place, and a number of clients who respect their work and want to work with them, as well as a network of professional contacts is essential.

A principal mechanical engineer is required to join a wastewater team which is currently seconded to work in Thames Water’s offices in Maple Lodge, Rickmansworth. This team is working on designs for refurbishment and upgrading of the London and Tideway Sewage Treatment Works.

Principal: Preparation of feasibility studies and outline designs for mechanical aspects of projects for sewage effluent and sludge treatment plant extensions and improvements. Requirements will include preparation of reports and draft procurement specifications. Supervision of work undertaken by junior engineers and technicians.
